If Mikado thought that Aoba’s excitement was a bit unusual, he didn’t say anything about it. Instead he just smiled at the younger and said, “Thank you, Aoba-kun,” The thanks was, as it always had been, sincere. “For remembering and for the greeting.”

Mikado half expects something like this, but it doesn’t stop him from jumping in slight fright when it actually does. (But really, who else but Kida would get this close to him?) Fright or otherwise, the boss tilts his head slightly so he can almost see the other, even if it’s a slightly awkward angle.
“You remembered,” he says first, almost completely joking, and smiles. “Thank you, Masaomi.”
